2019 Black Sheep Riesling VQA
We make wine with sheep. Our eco – friendly approach to vineyard management includes a roving flock that munches on grapevine leaves. The sheep feed on the leaves thus exposing the Riesling grape clusters – which the sheep ignore – to sunlight. This brings about healthier grapes with enhanced ripeness. Aromas of crisp apple cavort with peach – pear flavours and a zip of acidity. Match this lively wine with Asian foods, creamy pasta sauces or roasted squash.
Reviews of previous vintage: ” Wonderfully quenching but with a kiss of sweetness is the 2018 Featherstone Black Sheep Riesling. This racy wine tastes like a scoop of gourmet lime sorbet laced with a touch of grapefruit zest, green mango and sea salt. Terrific wine to pour as an aperitif on its own or with a nibble of gouda or goat cheese and crackers. Charming.” 91 points; Carolyn Evans Hammond, The Toronto Star; April 30, 2020
“The fruit was handpicked, hand sorted, whole bunch pressed and kept on the lees for about a month. It shows beautiful and pure aromas of lime, salinity, lemon blossom, green apple and a subtle ginger note. There’s a playful tug of sweet and tart lime/grapefruit on the palate with apple skin and ginger accents on bright, vibrant finish.” 90 points; Rick Van Sickle, May 5, 2020
